Essay Examples

Essay Examples Don’t quote too much; mix citations with your own opinions so that it doesn’t look as though you have to hide behind other people’s words. It’s fine to disagree with a scholar you quote, provided you can give evidence and reasoning for doing so. Read widely, and refer to a dictionary for words you don’t know as you go along; this way, you’ll learn the new word as well as seeing it in context so you know how to use it properly. The importance of this is already implied by the transition sentenceâ€"an essay with a logical progression will make transitioning between ideas relatively simple. As a segue, it bridges discussions in two different paragraphs. How it does that is up to you but it needs to do so sufficiently. Someone has probably suggested you should begin with your strongest idea then move to your lesser ones. You might also have heard your lesser arguments should go in the middle so you can begin and finish strong. This does not mean listing a load of names and rehearsing their arguments; nor does it mean disagreeing with everyone for the sake of it. While your conclusion should give some indication of the paper's arc, it should more importantly focus on the take home idea you want your reader to have. Good overall organization depends on your ability to know and craft a separate intent into each paragraph. With this, organization is as simple as determining a logical sequence. This way, you’ll avoid making lots of silly mistakes that threaten the clarity and flow of your essay. N.B. Your critical engagement with the scholars and authors whose work you’ve read will count for a huge chunk of marks. You'll find that having some paragraphs before others just makes sense. This is because some ideas are more preliminary while others build on ideas that need to come before. I really appreciate your effort in writing this.
